You might never want to travel with someone else again!
The Hospitality Shown to Laura
Laura fell in love with solo travel years ago. She’s been to several countries and has had some pretty neat experiences. One of her trips was to Jordan. She went to the beach early one morning while she was staying in Aqaba. She got in some exercise as she ran along the path of the Dead Sea. Later that day, she encountered two women who had seen her running. She connected with one of the ladies who was also a runner and who was participating in the Dead Sea races. Their time together was brief, but the bond they quickly formed led Laura to spend close to a week with the lady in her home. Staying with a local allowed Laura to experience the culture in Amman, Jordan, in a way she otherwise wouldn’t have.
Amanda’s Solo Trip at Age 15
Amanda started her solo travels as a teen. She boarded an airplane to Europe when she was 15 years old. Amanda was a summer camp counselor in Gjovik, Norway, where she spent her time with elementary school-aged kids from all around the world. Amanda’s trip began by boarding a bus to leave her home in Ottawa, Canada. The bus took her to Montreal. From there, she flew to Amderstam and then Oslo. But before her flight to Amsterdam, she had to re-arrange her suitcase in front of everyone because she packed too heavily.
Amanda was embarrassed, but another traveler was very kind and taught her about carry-on items. Amanda was able to fly without leaving any of her belongings behind. Thankfully, the rest of her trip was smooth-sailing. Once she arrived in Oslo, she took a train with a group of people who were also on their way to the camp in Norway.
Her Maine Man
An anonymous commenter shared her story with Oprah. After a bad breakup, she decided to take a last-minute trip to just get away from everything. She ended up on Mohegan Island in Maine. The coastal scenery was absolutely beautiful. On one of her walks, she went up high enough that she could see the ocean below her. Part of her view included a very handsome man. She worked up the courage to walk over to him and to say hello. She’s very glad she took that risk. She later married him!
Backpacking in Europe
After having used public transportation for all her trips, Juanita got brave and decided to go on a backpacking trip. She went further out of her comfort zone by staying at hostels instead of hotels. She left her native New Zealand for Prague, where she began her journey. She then traveled to Instanbul and spent time in Bulgaria, Hungary, and Romania along the way. During her trip, Juanita immersed herself in unfamiliar cultures where she didn’t understand the local languages. She enjoyed experiences like going to Dracula’s castle and hiking the Black Sea Coast. Juanita spent time in a total of 18 different places. After taking this solo backpacking trap, she feels like she can do anything!
Three Months in Europe
Stephanie took her first solo trip to celebrate her birthday. It was a five-day getaway not too far from her home, and everyone spoke the same language she did. She was well within her comfort zone. Stephanie loved her birthday trip so much that she planned more solo trips. She went to the West Coast for a month and then to Europe for three months. Stephanie loves how her travels have broadened her horizons and made her more aware of herself. She enjoys life more now, from the food she eats to the people she meets.
